What Is Backflow?
Backflow is when contaminated water has reversed flow and entered clean water lines, posing potentially serious health concerns.
This is typically caused by a significant change in water pressure (like a burst water main, for example) and can occur at any cross-connection between clean and dirty water lines that can contain hazardous materials such as chemicals and human waste.
Why Do I Need Backflow Testing?
In order to prevent backflow from occurring, a safety device can be installed that will stop dirty water from entering the clean water supply in the event of an unexpected change in water pressure.
These backflow prevention devices must be properly installed and tested annually to ensure proper function. In fact, municipal codes typically require annual testing and a property owner can be fined if testing is not completed in time.
